Manto ky Mutnaziya Afsanay is a compilation of short stories of prominent short story writer of Urdu “Saadat Hasan Manto”. This book “Manto ky Mutnaziya afsanay” is compiled by the renowned translator and literary critic Muhammad Ahsan Butt. This book consists of more than forty short stories of Saadat Hasan Manto which were considered controversial. ” ‘Thanda Gosht’,’Kali Shalwar’, and ‘Toba Tek Singh” are some of the renowned short stories of Manto which landed him into a lot of legal and societal troubles. 

Saadat Hasan Manto: An Introduction

Saadat Hassan Manto also named as Manto was one of the prominent playwright and short story writer, born on 11th May, in Ludhiana, British India. Critics and writers highly praised his stories.  Over the years, Manto wrote several books which include one novel, 23 books of short stories, three books of essays, two personal sketches books, and five radio plays. Manto worked in the editorial staff of a daily newspaper “Masawat” after the publication of his first translated book. The first big turn in Manto’s life was when he moved to Bombay and started writing film scripts, and also writing for newspapers and magazines.

In Bombay, he was introduced with Ashok Kumar, Shyam, Ismat Chughtai, and Naushad. This was the best time of his life as he has written several films including Mirza Ghalib, Chal Chal Re Naujawan, and Shikari. In 1948, Manto moved to Lahore but, he became an alcoholic and died in 1955. He was highly appreciated even today and in the last five years, two movies were released on Manto’s life and work. One by Nandita Das and another by Sarmad Khosat,, however, Manto Film by Nandita Das was not released in Pakistan.
